Derby’s fans treated to rare hill country blues

[caption id="attachment_16292" align="aligncenter" width="576"] Patrons of Derby’s Bar and Grill, 2860 W. Florida Ave., were treated to a rare performance of Mississippi hill country blues on Friday, Feb. 1, when blues guitarist extraordinaire Cooper “C.W.” Ayon, left, and bassist Felipe Toltecatl stopped in Hemet during their national tour. Based in New Mexico, C.W. Ayon has a reputation in the southwest and packs ‘em in at clubs in the Las Cruces area where he cut his teeth playing with rock bands. Ayon infuses his blues music with beats from his Native American roots in an unparalleled interpretation of the sounds we’ve come to know from the likes of John Lee Hooker and Muddy Waters. Kudos to Derby’s and owner Jesse Vivanco for bringing such a remarkable talent to the San Jacinto Valley. - Chris Smith, Advisory Editor[/caption]
