San Jacinto College San Jacinto campus. Directed by MSJC professor Bianca Swan-Finch and presented by the MSJC Performing Arts Department, Into the Woods is a fantasy musical based on the book by James Lapine that follows the stories of the baker and his wife, Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk, Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, and the Witch. Each character was brought to life by the cast and production team in surprising and engaging ways. An example of this was “The Living Woods,” which was comprised of six dancers clad in beautiful and colorful costumes to bring to life the wood’s twisting and curling vines. Another stimulating performance would be the Witch with her signature cackle and the passion that the actress brought to the character. Along with being a cast of great actors and actresses, all of them were involved in musical numbers which did not disappoint. Everyone’s singing was so powerful in such a way that it gave the audience shivers down their backs. The songs themselves were memorable, even days after hearing them. From comedic relief to dramatic effect, the MSJC Performing Arts Department perfectly presented Into the Woods as it was meant to be: an adventure that is also a metaphor for the unknown in life. Performances are still ongoing at 7:30 p.m. on April 5 and 6, with a matinee wrapping up the show’s run at 2:30 p.m. on April 7. Shows are located at the San Jacinto Campus Theater, 1499 North State Street, in San Jacinto. Tickets are $12 for general admission; $10 for seniors; and $8 for students, veterans and children.
